2.5.23 Prayers of Church & Community, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Pasadena, CA

Prayers of Church & Community, Feb. 5, 2023

Westminster Presbyterian Church

Eternal God, Father of all mercies, our Mother of all hope, deliver us from stagnation of spirit and soul … keep us moving forward, looking to you in all things, striving for what is right and good, in our personal lives, in the lives we live with and for one another, even as we give thanks for our daily bread.

We pray today for the nation of Peru … its struggles for identity and democracy … its colonial past … the lingering remnants of racism and violence.

We pray for our neighbor nations, south and north … bless their leaders, and those who continue to work for the better day.

Bless our President and his family, our Vice President and her family, our members of Congress and those who sit upon the bench of justice.

We pray not for heaven on earth, dear God, but enough of heaven on earth to slow our drift into chaos, temper our temptations to hate and violence, stir our souls in the on-going journey of faith, hope, and love - to never give up, to never surrender the field of battle to the darkness, dear God, to seek the common good, what is good and right for all of your creatures, dear God.

We pray today for the Rev. Harlan Redmond and his family … for the Interwoven Church, and for our Presbytery … here and around the world, O God, help us to bear witness to the love of Christ, help us to stand up and be counted, for the sake of truth, liberty and justice.

Bless Westminster, O God, with fresh vision and hope … we give thanks for what was, and we look to the future, trusting your Holy Spirit to guide us to new ways of ministry and mission.

In the name of our LORD Jesus Christ who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen
